Guitars Alive is an annual event in Sudbury, Ontario that celebrates the guitar and raises money to help with local guitar programs by providing awards and scholarships to deserving guitar students.

A PASSING OF THE TORCH - After organizing and successfully launching 9 guitars alive main events, producers Philip Candelaria, Paul Dunn and Gary DiSalle have decided to step down. Always a labour of love, these founding producers would have enjoyed presenting many more Guitars Alive concerts, but the time has come to let a younger generation take over. In June of 2011 both Philip and Paul retired from their teaching positions at Cambrian College and MacLeod Public school and Philip has even relocated to the Ottawa area to teach for Ottawa University. Philip, Paul and Gary will continue to perform as the Guitars Alive Trio, a name they are proud of and a lasting tribute to this Sudbury community charity event.

We are excited to introduce the new producers of Guitars Alive: Dr. Matthew Gould (Cambrian College), Marc Savard (Lasalle Secondary School) and Allan Yzereef (Laurentian University).

Mark our next event on your calendar: The tenth anniversary of Guitars Alive! held at Lockerby Composite School starting at 6:30pm on Saturday, March 31st, 2012. Please see Latest News for ticket info.

I’m delighted to know that my friend Philip and his colleagues Paul and Gary have put together another Guitars Alive this year. Bravo to everyone involved for supporting this exciting event. I have many fond memories of playing in Sudbury and remember the enthusiastic music community there. It is so essential that students have the means to discover and develop their musical talents. From someone who years ago benefitted from a scholarship, I know the profound influence it can have on one’s life. The funds raised at this event thanks to your generous support will enrich your community. Of course, I’m biased, but I must tell you there is no more beautiful instrument than the guitar! I send my love and best wishes to everyone involved. I greatly look forward to seeing you again on my next Canadian tour.” - Liona Boyd
